United Kingdom - Do I Need a CBT?
A Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) Certificate is required by UK law if you want to ride a motorcycle and don’t hold a full Category A licence. If you’re renting a vehicle with us and your DVLA record doesn’t show Category A entitlement, you’ll need to upload a valid CBT before you can proceed.
When a CBT Is Required
You’ll need to provide a CBT if:
- You don’t hold a full Motorcycle Licence (Category A)
- You’re renting a vehicle that requires motorcycle entitlement
- Your DVLA record shows limited or provisional entitlement.
How to Check If You Need a CBT
You can check your Driving Licence to see if you hold a full Category A entitlement:

Why We Still Verify with the DVLA
Even if your physical licence shows Category A, we’ll still verify your entitlements directly with the DVLA. This ensures:
- Your licence hasn’t been revoked, restricted, or updated
- Your entitlements are current and valid for insurance and legal compliance
If your DVLA record doesn’t show Category A, we’ll prompt you to upload a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) Certificate before continuing.
Still Not Sure if You Need a CBT?
No problem, just upload your Driving Licence without a CBT for now.
Once we’ve verified your entitlements with the DVLA, we’ll let you know if a CBT is required before you continue.
When to Upload Your CBT
You can:
- Upload during onboarding to save time
- Wait until we verify your Driving Licence. If your DVLA record doesn’t show Category A, we’ll prompt you to upload your CBT if you need one
Why We Ask for It
We collect and store CBT certificates to:
- Confirm you’re legally eligible to operate the vehicle
- Ensure you’re covered by insurance
- Comply with UK transport law and law enforcement requirements
All data is securely stored and deleted after your rental ends or if you don’t proceed with a booking.
